about

Welcome to this new Artist page for Steven Van Horny Modular Noise !

Started this project a few years back , I was using an old console and doing feedback loops with a lot of pedals , sometimes using sound samples blended with the feedback , that was pretty much it. I've done one show with this project with a few friends with their project ''Jean-Guy'' I was doing those feedback loops and screaming through a distorted microphone.

But in 2019 a lot of things changed , my friends left and their projects suddenly disappeared , I wasn't sure about doing this project anymore and thought about changing routes. But it's when I went to Montreal at the Synth Expo , I've met Dan of Screwed Circuitz who's been following my other project Metzger Dark Ambient , on the second day I've handed him my business card and he realized who I was. We were already talking of doing things together , I was very interested in his noise machine ''E-Mental M!n!'' basically a feedback loop with a few oscillators. Also on that weekend I met Keven from Zlob Modular and I thought his modules were really cool ! I wasn't so sure about stepping into Eurorack before that weekend but after that weekend I made up my mind about it. So everything changed after that weekend in Montreal , I knew I was up to something , I've invested a lot into my Modular System , had more fun than ever. My favorite Zlob module is the Diode Chaos , which I use all the time now , I will buy more of these modules at some point.

For this song I have used my E-Mental M!n! going into the modular using an external input module , I'm sending multiples versions of the signal through different filters , I am also using several modules to control via CV the filters and I am also using some oscillators. This song has 2 stereo tracks recorded with the Screwed Circuitz E-Mental M!n! going into the Modular System. I've also recorded 3 tracks with my Semi-Modular Synths : Korg MS20 , Behringer MS101 and Behringer Neutron.

One of the sounds that we hear more prominently is from the Modular system , is one of my oscillators being controlled by the Zlob Diode Chaos, makes me think of the flying cars or sirens that we hear in the Blade Runner movies. I thought this track really sounded ''Blade Runner'' to me ! Probably I should work on more tracks like this for an album !

Hope you enjoy this ! Thank you so much for listening ! Your support is very appreciated !

Turned into a Eurorack Modular Noisescapes project when in 2019 I started getting into semi-modular synthesizers and not too long after that I got finally into Eurorack, and then the rest is history ! ... more
